Olivia Burton, 23, moves to California with her boyfriend, Francis Morales, 24, against the wishes of their respective families. Francis’ mother, Lillian, is a devout Catholic who disapproves of her son’s cohabitation and expresses her feelings in the form of violent and religiously themed postcards. Despite these objections, the young lovers adapt to their exciting new life together. However, their happiness is cut short after a bizarre accident leaves Francis physically and mentally injured.
